This course aims to develop critical listening skills for modern audio technology. Critical listening has been a core component for audio production as well as production development. Similar to listening skills for music, critical listening skill requires a systematic pedagogy practiced through regular exercises. The course introduces the concept of critical listening within the context of audio engineering, offers hands-on practices on critical listening, analytically reads of audio album’s “LINER NOTES” together, compares a student’s favorite album (single track) as a group, design a solution for better critical listening training for normal listeners as well as hard of hearing listeners (term project).
